Fellowships, grants, and Graduate Programs

Award Amounts: up to $24,000 for overseas study; minimum 12 weeks, maximum 12 months.
Requirements: 1-year service requirement in the federal government.
Letters of Recommendation: 3 letters required.

Award Amounts: up to $37,500 annually for a two-year period for tuition, room, board, books and mandatory fees for completion of two-year master’s degrees in area of relevance to the work of the Foreign Service.

Award Amounts: fully covers round-trip transportation to host country, room, board, and incidental costs based on host country, accident and sickness health benefits, and monthly stipend.

Study Abroad Scholarships

Award Amounts: $10,000 for a semester; $20,000 for a 6-12 month program.
Requirements: 1-year service requirement in the federal government.

Requirements: recipients must share their experiences with their home campuses or communities to encourage study abroad by others and fulfill program’s goal of increasing understanding of Asia in the United States.
Letters of Recommendation: Study Abroad Supervisor recommendation only.

Award Amounts: $4,000 for academic year; $2,500 for semester-long programs.
Requirements: send a brief report about his/her study in Japan to AATJ office within 90 days of returning from abroad.

Note: This is only for students with demonstrated financial need and are receiving the Federal Pell Grant.
Award Amounts: up to $5,000, and may apply for supplemental award of up to $3,000 for a combined total of $8,000.
Requirements: recipients must complete Follow-on Service Project Proposal to promote international education and the Gilman Scholarship. Awardee is also eligible for 12 months of noncompetitive eligibility hiring status within the federal government.

Award Amounts: fully funded intensive overseas summer language and cultural immersion program.

Note: This is an unpaid internship. The CIP offers $3,000 stipends for summer internships.
Application Requirements: cover letter and resume. Applicants can apply to both Taipei and Kaohsiung offices.
Language Requirements: none, but basic Mandarin skills would be extremely helpful.
Deadlines: rolling applications for fall, winter, and spring internships.
